SCHOLARSHIPS OFFERED THROUGH THE DEACS
ACS Residents as Teachers and Leaders Grant Award
Resident members of the DEACS chapter are encouraged to apply for sponsorship to attend the ACS Residents as Teachers and Leaders Course.
The 2025 course will be held in Chicago from April 11 -13, 2025. The goal of this course is to help surgery residents develop some of the essential nonclinical skills that will be critical to their success as senior-level residents and practicing surgeons. The course faculty are nationally renowned clinical and educational professionals who will provide an interactive learning environment. Residents will learn to lead a team more effectively, resolve conflict, be better teachers, give constructive feedback, and apply these skills during and after residency. The number of participants is limited to allow ample interaction with faculty and to facilitate networking with other attendees. This course is targeted for mid- to senior-level residents, but all trainees who are currently in a surgical residency program are welcome to attend.
Funding for registration, housing and travel for this course will be provided by the DEACS. In the event you are wait listed to next year's course, the DEACS will honor your scholarship.
Eligibility: Residents must be a member of the DEACS and must currently be in good standing within their general surgery residency program with the support of their Program Director. Members must apply and be accepted for participation to the course. Please email your current CV and a brief (500-word max) summary of why you would like to participate in this course to delawarechapteracs@gmail.com.
Applications will be reviewed by the selection committee. Up to two awards will be granted each calendar year.
Applications are open now for the 2025 course. Deadline for application is January 15, 2025.
Congratulations to our previous award recipients:
2023: Dr. Joseph Kuiper and Dr. Arielle Bracket, both from ChristianaCare (attended 2024).
